CHAPTER 28

Frankie is surprised when Jerry Leonard's call comes much sooner than expected.

“I just received an urgent call from the company that services the security cameras in the prison. They were able to pull up a copy of the recording that was missing the night your friend, Rollo died. What they saw, they says, is unbelievable. They are sending me a copy by email, I should have it later today. I'm not supposed to do this, but give me your email address and I'll forward it to you when I get it,” says Leonard.

Several hours later, Leonard's email with the video attachment arrives in Frankie's email mailbox. In the message with the video, Jerry Leonard asks Frankie to call him after viewing the clip. Frankie takes several minutes to download the attachment and nervously opens it, sets it up and plays the video.

The scene is dark and grainy, the only light is a dim night-light in Biff's prison hospital room. The camera that is recording, is mounted on a wall opposite the bed and is a considerable distance away. The time icon on the video shows it is two fifteen AM. Initially there is no movement apparent except for the occasional occurrence of Biff''s arm or head turning to one side or the other. Nothing happens for the next few minutes as Frankie watches.

Suddenly a face appears at the door window, a few seconds later the door opens and a figure enters the room. In the dimness it is not possible to identify the individual, except that by the clothing and hat worn by the figure it can be determined it is a prison guard. This guard walks to the bed and examines the chart at the foot of the bed. He puts the chart back, apparently contented that this is the patient he is seeking, he then walks to the head of the bed and closely examines the sleeping figure. Apparently Satisfied he is deep in sleep, he slowly slides a hand beneath the pillow and carefully removes something without disturbing the sleeping Biff. He retreats to the door where he waits and listens. After making sure no one is in the area, he leaves.

The video is edited at this point and the clock shows it to be thirty two minutes later. The door again opens and what appears to be the same figure reenters the room and again checks to be sure Biff is still deep in sleep. He then proceeds to replace whatever he had taken previously by slowly sliding the items under Biff's pillow. He appears to be successful as he slowly removes his hand from under the pillow, but at this point, Biff suddenly awakens and snatches the intruder's hand before he can fully retrieve it. A scuffle ensues that lasts several minutes. It is obvious that the intruder, in searching for a way to stop and silence Biff, pulls a rubber tubing from among the medical paraphernalia at the bed and wraps it around Biff's neck and pulling it tightly, slowly strangles Biff to death.
